Unexpected Animal Friendships

If you’ve ever had a pet, you know animals have the capacity for as much, if not more, love than us humans. These unlikely friendships capture the power of love. As Antoine de Saint-Exupery wrote in Le Petit Prince: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye”.

Bea the giraffe and Wilma the ostrich became best friends when they met at Busch Gardens. They share a large 65-acre enclosure, and prefer to spend their time close together!

​Dennis the duckling became orphaned when his mother was attacked by a fox. Fred the labrador and his owner found and rescued Dennis, and these two have been pals ever since.

Who says dogs and cats don’t get along? Meet Milo and Bonedigger! This tiny dachshund took a liking to Bonedigger when the lion cub was suffering from a metabolic bone disease. Today, the 500 pounder loves to hang with his 11 pound buddy. There’s no size difference in their hearts!

​These forest friends could be right out of Disney’s classic film! The deer and rabbit duo were spotted by animal photographer Tanja Askani.

​Two white tiger cubs were separated from their mother when her enclosure was flooded during a hurricane. They were adopted by a U.S. animal reserve. Anjana the chimp immediately took them under her wing. She even helped bottle feed the cubs!

​Bubbles the elephant and Bella the black lab became playmates and best friends at the Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina. Bubbles and Bella spend their days playing in the water. Bubbles throws a ball with her trunk and Bella jumps off Bubbles’ head to play fetch!
